Caldwell, New Jersey: Full Lower Level Transformation
Transforming an unfinished basement into a fully realized luxury entertainment destination for a family of six.
This Caldwell, New Jersey basement renovation transformed an underutilized lower level into a fully custom entertainment destination for a family of six — including a custom wet bar, home theater, game room, and a spa-like bathroom — all connected by a cohesive palette of warm wood, soft grey, and brushed gold. Every zone designed with intention. Every detail finished with luxury.

OBJECTIVE
Our design concept was built around intentional luxury for real family life. Every zone was thoughtfully planned to serve a distinct purpose without sacrificing cohesion or sophistication. From the custom wet bar to the home theater to the boys' basketball-inspired bedroom, every detail was designed to reflect this family's lifestyle at its fullest.
Approach:
Space Planning & Zoning: The lower level was divided into distinct, purposeful zones — a main lounge and entertainment area, a full wet bar, a home theater, a game room, a library lounge, a private fitness studio, and a dedicated bedroom suite for the two youngest members of the family. Each zone flows naturally into the next while maintaining its own design identity.
Custom Millwork & Built-Ins: Custom cabinetry was central to the design throughout — from the dramatic floor-to-ceiling dark built-in bookshelves in the library lounge, to the custom entertainment wall with linear fireplace, to the fully outfitted game room storage. Every built-in was designed to maximize both function and visual impact.
Wet Bar Design: The bar became one of the most striking features of the entire space. We selected a textured slate tile backsplash, glass shelving with custom gold brackets, a quartz countertop, and a matte black faucet — a sophisticated interplay of materials that balances warmth with edge.
Home Theater: The theater room was designed for full immersion. A bold geometric black ceiling treatment, oversized projection screen, leather reclining sofas, and gold wall sconces create an experience that feels more private screening room than basement.
Boys' Bedroom Suite: Proof that luxury design is for every member of the family. The boys' room features a custom basketball neon light wall installation, grasscloth accent wall, layered bedding, and a thoughtfully styled workspace — sophisticated enough for the home, personal enough for two young boys who love the game.
Finish Selections: A cohesive palette of warm wood tones, soft grey upholstery, matte black, and brushed gold carried throughout every room, creating a unified design story across a very large and multi-faceted space.
